In the spring of 2000, Parker Hughes Cancer Center was established, marking the completion of a five-year project by Parker Hughes Institute.

Parker Hughes Institute is one of the largest non-profit research organizations in the United States devoted to the development of new drugs for the treatment of chronic and life-threatening illnesses. It houses the second largest drug discovery institute in the United States and the largest drug discovery program for children suffering from cancer.
