Social Work

In addition to the medical needs of patients, the social work services of Parker Hughes Cancer Center provide assistance to patients and families that can make their days of treatment more manageable.

The staff coordinates supportive services and resources for pediatric patients and families as well as adult patients. The social work team also coordinates a volunteer program to meet additional needs of patients.

Currently, volunteers carry out two important services:

Play Attendants
These volunteers supervise and facilitate activities for children in the play area of Parker Hughes Cancer Center.

Patient/Family Helpers
These volunteers assist patients and their families with tasks and errands that may be difficult for them to accomplish during the course of treatment, such as quick trips to the grocery or drug store or picking up lunch.
